Information Systems for Individual Bodies

Despite the long relationship between humans and clothing, a universal system for garment size has never been developed; all potential systems are destined to fail to account for the diversity and complexity of individual bodies. The final course assignment for IDT 501 Social Information Theory at SUNY Polytechnic, this project will explore the constraints on universally demonstrating clothing size as an informational design issue. The project will research questions related to the dimensions, history, and constraints on clothing classification systems. It will rely on academic sources as well as concepts from Designing for Information by Joel Katz to explore the topic and culminate in a matrix-visualization comparing traits of clothing-size systems.
